KARLOVICH: Dear ladies and gentlemen, let me welcome the guests of our first press conference of today: the chairman of the Technical Administrative Panel Ashot Vardapetian and the member of TAP Werner Stubenvoll. We are all interested in many questions concerning the work of the TAP. Our first question is what the TAP main responsibilities are. What is new in the work of TAP in this Olympiad? How pairings are done? And how the final ranking will be calculated?

Chairman of the FIDE Women's Commission Susan Polgar and owner of the "Classical Jewelry House" Igor Lobortas have awarded the reigning Women's World Champion Hou Yifan with the Caissa Cup on Sunday at the ceremony in Polat Hotel.

The 5th round of the 40th Chess Olympiad saw match-ups of many powerhouse teams in the Open section.

On the first match table, 2-time Olympiad Champion Armenia locked horns with the defending champions of Ukraine. Armenian Super GM and World #2 Levon Aronian engaged in battle Vassily Ivanchuk. The only decisive game in the match, Aronian went up the exchange and moves later with a simple tactic sealed the fate of Ivanchuk and the Ukrainian team, giving the Armenians a 2,5-1,5 victory.

The last press-conference was devoted to Polgar sisters: Sophia, Judith and Susan.

Sophia’s visit was an incredibly pleasant surprise for both other sisters. As Susan lives in the USA, Judith lives in Hungary and Sophia - in Israel, sisters lack communication and try to catch opportunities to get together. Every year sisters meet during annual event - Polgar Chess Day.

The owner of the Classical Jewelry House LOBORTAS Igor Lobortas came to Istanbul to hand in the Caissa Cup to the Women’s World Chess Champion Hou Yifan. He recollected the idea of creating the Caissa Cup.

After the Gaprindashvili Cup was accidentally broken in the Ukrainian airport, the Classical Jewelry House came out with their proposal to remake it. The World Chess Federation met the offer with gratitude and the Classical Jewelry House created the new Gaprindashvili Cup.
