Press conference of the FIDE President Kirsan Ilyumzhinov, FIDE Deputy President Georgios Makropolous and the FIDE Vice President, President of the Turkish Chess Federation, the Chairman of the 40th World Chess Olympiad Organizing Committee Ali Nihat Yazici.
KARLOVICH: Let me welcome our guests at the first press conference of the 40th World Chess Olympiad: the FIDE President Kirsan Ilyumzhinov, FIDE Deputy President Georgios Makropoulos and the FIDE Vice President, President of the Turkish Chess Federation, the Chairman of the 40th World Chess Olympiad Organizing Committee Ali Nihat Yazici. I would like to give the floor to the FIDE President Kirsan Ilyumzhinov to share his impression on the organization of the Olympiad.
ILYUMZHINOV: I would like to first of all greet all the journalists and guests here. On behalf of the World Chess Federation I would like to thank the Government of Turkey, the city municipality of Istanbul, the Turkish Chess Federation and its President, my brother Ali Nihat Yazici for the brilliant organization of the Olympiad in Istanbul. We came up to a record number of the countries - participants, now 158 national federations take part in the Istanbul Olympiad and this makes us happy.

Les Olympiades d'échecs ont été ouvertes ce jour par le Ministre turc de la Jeunesse et des Sports, Suat Kilic. Il a a joué la premier coup pour le GMI Zhao Xue lors du match Chine-Bangladesh sous les yeux du Président de la FIDE, Kirsan Ilyumzhinov, et du Président de la Fédération Turque des Echecs, Ali Nihat Yazici.

 158 nations entrent en compétition aujourd'hui pour les Olympiades d'échecs à Istanbul en Turquie. Il s'agit d'un record.
Les parties débutent à 15h heure locale. Vous pouvez les suivre en direct sur le site officiel.
Le triage au sort des couleurs a eu lieu au cours de la cérémonie d'ouverture. La Russie, plus forte équipe de ces Olympiades sur le papier, jouera avec les Noirs au premier échiquier. Chez les femmes, la Chine, plus forte équipe de ces Olympiades sur le papier, jouera avec les Blancs au premier échiquier.

Les 40ème Olympiades d'échecs sont officiellement ouvertes |

La cérémonie d'ouverture des Olympiades d'échecs vient de se tenir ce lundi 27 août à 20h30 au centre des conventions de l'hôtel WOW à Istanbul.
La cérémonie a débuté par l'hymne national turc, suivi d'un hommage aux grands joueurs d'échecs du passé. Le public a pu apprécier un programme culturel riche mettant notamment en vedette des danses traditionnelles. Le Président de la FIDE Kirsan Ilyumzhinov, le Ministre de la Jeunesse et des Sports Suat Kilic et le Président de la Fédération Turque des Echecs Ali Nihat Yazici ont ensuite accueilli et salué les participants.
